tank blog
I tried to keep reminding myself to get back in here and post an update, but life has a way of preventing things from happening. I’ve made some changes, done some more DIY and bought a bunch of corals since my last update. I’ll start where I left off in the last entry, Spectracide Stump Remover dosing.
I really had my hopes set high for dosing the stump remover. Seeing pictures from others really made me think this was something that could be of real benefit to my zoanthids. I tried it once and got algae growth everywhere. I stopped dosing and the algae went away. Being a scientist, of course I had to try again to see if it was a fluke. Sure enough, after one dose the algae started coming back again. The algae is enough to make my zoanthids annoyed and enough to concern me about it becoming a real problem. I stopped dosing and I’m going to put the whole concept on the back burner for a while. Maybe in the future I’ll give it another try.
I decided I wanted to look for a different way to encourage growth in my corals. After some more reading, I came across a plot showing the important wavelengths of light for photosynthesis. I built an LED booster for my Kessil to try and get into that zone. More on that in my next entry....

long overdue update
You Win Some,
You Lose Some
Nitrate dosing is not for me...
You can see the brown algae on my sand...
